Coming home from work at the end of the day, most of us walk past something in our driveway, yard, or house that prompts the thought, “someday I really need to take care of that.”  Guess what? This is the season for “someday” in the land of contracting!  Fall and winter are San Antonio’s “most wonderful time of the year” with holidays and cooler weather.  This translates into a generally slower season for contractors.  And this translates into some stellar deals on those projects you’ve been putting off.

Warmer winters here in the South mean that you don’t have to wait until spring to do your spring cleaning. In spring and summer, we all think of tackling projects like pools, landscaping, irrigation, and exterior painting, to name a few. But why not get a jump-start on these things? Complete them by spring, and you’ll enjoy the finished product for the rest of the year!

When the pumpkin pie is all eaten and the company’s gone this season, here are a few things you might consider:

  • Painting your home’s exterior (we recommend January/February)
  • Installing the new pool you’ve thought about. Install in winter, and swim by spring!
  • Resurfacing your driveway
  • Adding a new deck
  • Modifying or installing irrigation systems
  • Replacing the roof
  • Installing new siding

If you’re planning to list your house for sale this coming spring or summer, winter is a great time to work on items that will increase your home’s value. These can include anything from windows and doors, to cabinetry and counter tops, to adding extra insulation that will increase your home’s energy efficiency.

Even if you’re not selling, fall and winter can be a great time for interior projects like interior painting, bathrooms, cabinetry, and floors.  It’s also a prime season to replace windows and doors.

You’ve likely never seen a TV commercial advertising a contracting “sale” – but fall and winter are “sale season” for your home improvement projects.  Don’t put off until tomorrow what can save you big bucks today.  Take another look at those need-to-take-care-of items, and let’s talk about getting them done in time for spring.  Give your home a gift that will keep on giving for years to come!
